The Forensic Audit: A Mother’s Price (Part 2)

The Only Name that Matters

Three months later, the hillside penthouse was sold. The luxury SUV was traded for a safe, spacious family vehicle.

Michael sat on the floor of a sunlit, beautiful cottage near the coast, watching the twins—Luke and Leo—crawl across the thick carpet, their pale hair catching the morning sun.

Emily walked out of the kitchen, carrying two warm bottles. She had regained her weight, her elegance, and her radiant smile, but she still wore her favorite comfortable jeans. She handed a bottle to Michael, sitting down beside him on the floor.

“You don’t miss the empire?” she asked softly, looking at him.

Michael reached over, taking her hand and locking his fingers through hers. He looked at his sons, then back at the woman who had survived the dark to protect them.

“I spent years trying to build a name in this city,” Michael said quietly, kissing the back of her hand. “But I finally realized… the only title that ever mattered was being a father to her children, and a husband to the only woman who ever loved me for nothing.”
