I woke up from a coma and heard my son whisper, “Don’t open your eyes, Mom… Dad is waiting for you to die.” At that moment, I realized my accident hadn’t been an accident at all. My husband and my own sister were waiting for me to die so they could take everything I owned.

PART 2

Sergio slowly released Valeria’s hand.

Not out of guilt. Out of calculation.

—Who let you in? —he asked, looking at the hallway camera.

—The hospital staff already spoke with the police about your behavior —Gálvez replied.

Renata stepped forward with a perfect smile.

—Attorney, it’s good you came. But this is a family tragedy, not a legal circus. My sister had an accident. That’s it.

—A very curious accident —Gálvez said, lifting a tablet—. Mechanical analysis shows the brake lines were cut with a tool. Not worn out.

Valeria listened as if air were returning to her lungs.

Mateo still held her hand.

Renata leaned toward Valeria.

—That proves nothing —she whispered venomously.

But Valeria felt it.

Her sister was afraid.

—Not everyone knew Valeria would take that route that night —the lawyer continued—. And not everyone benefited from her death.

Sergio laughed nervously.

—Benefit? My wife is in a coma.

—She also changed her will —Gálvez said.

Renata’s eyes widened.

—That’s a lie.

—She signed it while fully lucid —the lawyer said—. Everything goes into a trust for Mateo. If Valeria dies, neither of you can touch a cent. You also cannot remove the child from the country or change his residence without court approval.

Sergio went pale.

Renata clenched her jaw.

—She had no right.

—It was her money —Gálvez said—. Her companies. Her inherited properties. Everything you wanted to erase through fake contracts.

Valeria finally understood the scale of betrayal.

They didn’t just want her fortune.

They wanted Mateo.

—This is getting out of control —Renata murmured.

She moved closer to the bed.

—We should have made sure she never woke up.

Mateo looked up.

—You already said that before.

Silence.

—What did you say? —Sergio asked.

—I heard you in the kitchen —Mateo said—. You said Mom wouldn’t sign. And Aunt Renata said a curve on the road would fix everything.

Renata lost her mask.
